Start with how you use the room

At Meridian Countertop Pros, we help you pick a countertop by how the room really gets used. Then we measure, cut and fit it. Tell us who cooks, what lands on the counter, and how much upkeep you'll honestly do. We don't assume a busy family kitchen and a guest bathroom need the same material.

We also work in Boise, Eagle, Kuna, Star and Nampa, and in the other Treasure Valley towns listed below.

Where the top goes

Kitchen countertops

For kitchen countertops, we lay out every run, the island, and the cutouts for the sink and cooktop (the burners set into the counter). Then we go over with you where the seams can sit.

Bathroom vanity tops

We fit bathroom vanity tops for one sink or two. Pick your faucet before we cut. There's more on that below.

Outdoor kitchen countertops

We fit outdoor kitchen countertops for grills and patio bars. Tell us which way the spot faces and whether it's covered, and we'll narrow down the materials.

Stone from the ground

Granite countertops

We fit granite countertops for kitchens and islands. Bring a cabinet door or a floor tile when you look at slabs, so you can see them side by side.

Quartzite countertops

The U.S. Geological Survey defines quartzite as a rock made mostly of quartz that formed from sandstone. We fit quartzite countertops in kitchens and on islands.

Marble countertops

We fit marble countertops on vanities, kitchen islands and baking counters.

Soapstone countertops

The U.S. Geological Survey says soapstone is a rock with talc in it. We fit soapstone countertops in kitchens and on islands.

Made surfaces

Quartz countertops

The CDC's worker-safety institute, NIOSH, lists quartz as another name for engineered stone. We fit quartz countertops in kitchens and on islands, in solid colors or veined patterns.

Solid surface countertops

We fit solid surface countertops in bathrooms and kitchens where you want a quiet, plain top.

Porcelain countertops

We fit porcelain countertops when you want a thin, light slab. We'll show you the edge options before you choose.

Concrete countertops

We fit concrete countertops in outdoor kitchens, and for anyone who wants a top cast to their own shape.

Butcher block countertops

We fit butcher block countertops on islands, or as a baking station next to a stone run. Ask us what care the wood will need.

Old tops

Countertop replacement

For countertop replacement, we pull out the old top and look over the cabinet boxes underneath. Once they're sound, we fit the new top.

Countertop repair

We don't assume a chipped edge or a burn mark means you need a new top. We'll look at the damage and tell you whether a countertop repair will hold.

Backsplash installation

After the top is in, we can handle backsplash installation: the band of tile or stone on the wall right above the counter.

Swapping the faucet while the top is off

When we fit a new vanity top, the old faucet is already off, so it's a good time to change it. Look for the WaterSense label. The EPA says WaterSense labeled bathroom sink faucets use 1.5 gallons per minute at most. That can cut a sink's flow by 30 percent or more from the standard 2.2 gallons per minute. The EPA also says that swapping old faucets and aerators (small add-ons that attach to an existing faucet) for WaterSense labeled models can save the average family 700 gallons of water a year.

Whichever faucet you pick, choose it before we cut the top. We drill the faucet holes to match it.

Before you take out a wall for an island

The City of Meridian's handout on residential permits lists projects that don't need a permit. Connecting a refrigerator, dishwasher or range to the hookups already there is on it, and so are light fixture change-outs. Structural changes are on the list that do need a permit, and that includes walls that don't hold up the house. So if your plan opens up the kitchen by taking out a wall to make room for an island, that part of the job needs a permit. The city takes permit applications online, and you can reach its building office at (208) 887-2211.

What to put in writing

Meridian countertop questions

Do I need a permit to hook the dishwasher and range back up?

Not if they go back onto the hookups already there. Meridian's permit handout lists connecting appliances to existing hookups, including a dishwasher, range and refrigerator, as work that doesn't need a permit. Taking out a wall is a different story.

Can you put a new top on a vanity I bought at a store?

We can, if the cabinet is solid and level. We check that when we measure.

What should I have ready for measuring day?

Pick your sink, faucet and cooktop if you can, and keep the model numbers handy. Clear the counters, and think about where you'd accept a seam.

Is there a WaterSense label for kitchen faucets?

No. The EPA only has WaterSense criteria for bathroom sink faucets and bar sink faucets. It has none for kitchen faucets.

Do you come out to Kuna, Star and Eagle?

Yes. We also cover Boise, Nampa, Garden City, Caldwell and the rest of the towns listed below.
